MEET THE SPEAKERS: Anthony Vetro

We are excited to announce that Anthony Vetro & CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), will be speaking in Working Group 3: Navigating a World Transformed by AI. Anthony Vetro is President and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), and Deputy Head of Corporate R&D for Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. He previously served as MERL’s Vice President & Director. He began his career at MERL in 1996, and his work supported technologies later integrated into Mitsubishi Electric products, including digital TV systems, surveillance and camera monitoring, automotive equipment, and satellite imaging. Anthony has published over 200 papers, was an active member of the MPEG and ITU-T video coding standardisation committees, and has held multiple roles within the IEEE Signal Processing Society. From 2011-2014, he served as Head of the US Delegation to MPEG, and from 2015-2018, he served as the Chair of the US Technical Advisory Group to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29. He currently serves as Chair of the Industry Board and a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. He holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and has received multiple awards for his work on transcoding, and is a Fellow of the IEEE. The Navigating a World Transformed by AI session will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping the way we live, work, and interact, with profound societal implications. The discussion will focus on ensuring AI’s growth aligns with human values, balancing technological progress with human autonomy and societal well-being.

MEET THE SPEAKERS: Vincent Conitzer

We are delighted to announce that Vincent Conitzer, Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University and University of Oxford, will be speaking in Working Group 8: Optimizing Base Models for Responsible AI Progress. ????? ??. ??????? ???????? Dr. Vincent Conitzer is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Foundations of Cooperative AI Lab (FOCAL) at Carnegie Mellon University. He is Head of Technical AI Engagement at the Institute for Ethics in AI, University of Oxford, and Founder and President of Econorithms, LLC. Previously, he was the Kimberly J. Jenkins University Professor of New Technologies at Duke University, with appointments in Computer Science, Economics, and Philosophy. Dr. Conitzer earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and his A.B. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University. His awards include the ACM/SIGAI Autonomous Agents Research Award, PECASE, IJCAI Computers and Thought Award, and fellowships from AAAI, ACM, Sloan, and Guggenheim. He has chaired leading AI conferences and co-founded the ACM Transactions on Economics and Computation (TEAC). He is also co-author of Moral AI: And How We Get There. ????? ??????? ????? ?: This session will explore the necessary steps and innovations to ensure that agentic systems benefit humanity and its environment. We are delighted to announce that Pilar Manchón PhD. Director of Engineering and AI Research Strategy at Google, will be speaking in Working Group 3: Navigating a World Transformed by AI. ????? ????? ??????́? Dr. Pilar Manchón is a senior leader in artificial intelligence with over two decades of experience in research, entrepreneurship, and executive leadership. Since 2019, she has served as Senior Director of Engineering for AI Research Strategy at Google, where she leads global initiatives on responsible and ethical AI. Alongside her role at Google, she holds multiple board and advisory positions with organisations such as Eventbrite, Universal Diagnostics, and the California-Spain Chamber of Commerce. Before joining Google, Dr. Manchón held leadership positions at Roku as Vice President of Conversational AI, and at Amazon as Director of Cognitive Interfaces. At Intel, she served as Senior Director of Intelligent Digital Assistance and Voice. Indisys, the AI and natural language processing company she founded and led for a decade in Seville, Spain, developed conversational technologies that achieved international recognition. Her career began in computational linguistics and dialogue systems research at the University of Seville and Stanford University, where she contributed to several European and U.S. AI research projects. ????? ??????? ????? ? We are excited to announce that Pierre Lévy, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and Associate Professor and Researcher at Université de Montréal, will be speaking in Working Group 4: Navigating a World Transformed by AI. ????? ?????? ??́??: Pierre Lévy holds PhDs in Information Science and Sociology, and has authored thirteen books translated into more than a dozen languages, including Collective Intelligence, Becoming Virtual, and The Semantic Sphere. He is also the CEO and co-founder of INTLEKT Metadata Inc., and the inventor of IEML (the Information Economy Meta Language). His academic career has included professorships at the University of Ottawa, UQTR, Paris 8, and Paris Nanterre, as well as research roles at the University of Montréal and École Polytechnique (CREA).
