Professor of Responsible Artificial Intelligence at Umeå University
Jean-Michel Loubes is a Senior Researcher at INRIA and Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Toulouse, specializing in machine learning, fairness, explainability, and trustworthy AI. He has extensive experience leading large-scale interdisciplinary research programs, supervising over 30 PhDs, and advising European and national regulatory bodies on AI governance and risk assessment. His work bridges academia and industry, with collaborations spanning aerospace, finance, defense, healthcare, and technology, delivering explainable and certifiable AI solutions. Recognized with the CNRS Innovation Award and national research leadership grants, he currently directs the Regalia research team on AI regulation and serves as Scientific Director of France’s national program on AI risk assessment. Author of over 100 publications and five patents, he is a frequent keynote speaker at leading conferences worldwide.
