Professor of industrial-organizational psychology at Rice University
Fred Oswald, PhD, is a professor of industrial-organizational psychology at Rice University. With his graduate students, his 150+ publications address how AI affects the worker, workplace, and workforce, as well as the substance and psychometrics of employment and educational testing. Currently, he is the incoming Editor in Chief of Psychological Methods and outgoing Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology, as well as having served as Associate Editor at 7 other journals, and as a current or past editorial board member across 20 journals. He also chairs the Board on Human-Systems Integration (BOHSI) at the National Academy of Sciences. Recently, he advised the White House as a member of the National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee (NAIAC, 2022–25), also having served in the past as President of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP, 2017–18). For the American Psychological Association, he served as Chair of the Board of Scientific Affairs (2022), Chair of the Open Science and Methodology Committee (2021), and Chair of the Committee on Psychological Tests and Assessment (2018). He is a Fellow of SIOP, APA (Div. 5, 8, 14), and the Association for Psychological Science. Dr. Oswald received his PhD in industrial-organizational psychology at the University of Minnesota in 1999.
